ISO/TC 131 Fluid Power Systems Spring Meetings Held in Paris

Six TC 131 working groups focused on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pneumatic control products, treatment of air, accumulators, and water hydraulics met in Paris in mid-May to further the work of hydraulic and pneumatic standards development. Participating countries included France, Italy, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Japan, China, and Turkey. NFPA would like to thank the Union de Normalisation de la Mécanique (UNM) for hosting the spring meeting schedule.

In SC 9/WG 1, Hydraulic systems and SC 9/WG 2, Pneumatic systems, working group experts are developing a series of new standards relating to energy efficiency. Presentations and group discussion revolved around how to transform theory into practice, how to calculate the life cycle costs of a system, and how to determine the energy consumption of the system per hour. U.S. volunteers are urgently needed to participate on these fluid power systems working groups.

In SC 5/WG 3, Pneumatic control products, the experts came to consensus on a number of comments and project leaders’ observations regarding the ISO 6358 series of standards for determining flow-rate characteristics of pneumatic components.

A new working group on water hydraulics (SC 8/WG 14) also met for the first time in Paris. Delegates from China, Japan and Turkey met to begin planning their work on a number of water-hydraulic projects.

The 2019 fall meeting cluster is scheduled the weeks of October 7 and October 14 in Milan, Italy. Subcommittees and working groups involved in sealing devices, connectors, contamination control, and cylinders are scheduled to meet.

If you would like to join one of the ISO subcommittees and/or working groups closely involved with the development of fluid power ISO standards, contact Denise Husenica at (414) 778-3354 or email dhusenica@nfpa.com.
