Action Challenge Enhances Project-Based Learning for Middle Schools

Master Pneumatic held its fifth annual Fluid Power Action Challenge at Macomb Community College this spring. While Master Pneumatic welcomed a new middle school, Detroit Waldorf, to compete this year, Warren Consolidated school district has been participating since the beginning.

The director of MMSTC, (MS)2TC, MSVPA, and Special Programs for Warren Consolidated had this to say about their involvement in this year’s event:

“For Warren Consolidated Schools’ MS2TC program, where groups of students from our district’s four middle schools participate, we had 110 take part. They received invaluable feedback on their journals, which we will embed in our program as a way to strengthen our students’ work on keeping scientific journals. All students would willingly participate again! We nest the fluid power experience within our 6th grade curriculum as a portion of our project-based learning model for 8 weeks, weaving class time together from all three classes to allow students substantive time to participate.”

Many thanks to the NFPA members that helped to sponsor and/or judge this event: Alro Steel, J.H. Bennett, R.M. Wright, Ross Controls, SMC Corporation of America, and Yates Industries.
