NFPA’s last Economic Update Event featured Jim Meil from ACT Research.

Guest Speaker: Jim Meil, ACT Research 

James P. Meil is Principal, Industry Analysis with ACT Research, the recognized leader in data, analysis, and forecasting for the commercial vehicle and transportation industry.

Meil has been recognized as a leading industrial sector economist and planner for over 30 years. At ACT Research he is responsible for analyzing how goods-producing sectors are contributing to freight conditions and vocational activity. He collaborates with ACT Research's senior team in the preparation of North American economic forecasts, sales and production volume forecasts for commercial vehicles and trailers, outlooks for other key capital equipment markets, and he guides the model development efforts of the company.

Meil received first-place recognition in the Wall Street Journal’s survey of 50 forecasters and ranked among USA Today’s “Top 10 Economic Forecasters” for accuracy.

Prior to joining ACT Research, Meil spent 29 years in the planning department of Eaton Corporation, retiring from the position of Vice President and Chief Economist in April 2014.  He served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Business Economics, the professional association of business economists.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and a Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in economics from the University of Chicago.
