Industry Statistics Task Force Meets to Build Program Value

In the days before the 2022 Annual Conference in February, the NFPA Board of Directors met over a series of meetings at the Arizona Biltmore to review progress on NFPA’s strategic objectives so far this fiscal year, which runs July 2021-June 2022. This series of meetings included a targeted session for the Industry Statistics Task Force, a group that focuses on improving the programs that support NFPA’s objective to provide “members with timely and accurate industry statistics and business intelligence that support improved decision-making.”

This year’s priorities in this area include:

  1. To continue to deliver and grow participation in regular Business Intelligence surveys, which will in turn help drive additional programming and education opportunities.
  2. To continue to grow the proportion of members who use the Stats Toolkit each year.

Progress to date includes building out the Business Intelligence program survey cadence and topics based on member feedback. As a critical mass of data and other information comes together, we are beginning to tie related topics into conference programming and cross-promotion opportunities. These past months have also been spent working with our new Econ & Stats Manager to streamline programs to make them easier and more useful to members, including the Stats Toolkit, which recently underwent updates to be able to include preliminary data.

What this means for you

These priorities will help ensure NFPA continues to provide valuable programs and information that members can easily use to build their businesses.

You can get involved and reap the benefits in this area in a number of ways in the next few months:

  1. Keep an Eye Out for the Next Business Intelligence Survey
These surveys are sent out periodically to all members, and detailed reports are provided to those who participate. Keep an eye on your inbox for the next one, or contact Pete Alles at palles@nfpa.com with any questions or to ensure you’re on the list.
  2. Download a Stats Report
From industry overview to reports that dive deep into specific international and customer markets, there are valuable reports suitable for any and all NFPA member companies. You can check out the report offering here or reach out to Sam Diedrich at sdiedrich@nfpa.com with any questions.
  3. Check Out the Stats Toolkit
The Stats Toolkit is a valuable tool that helps NFPA members combine multiple sources of data to analyze trends and benchmark performance. Confidential Shipment Statistics (CSS) program participation is required for Toolkit access, and NFPA members not eligible for CSS can access a limited version of the tool. Many thanks to taskforce participants
