A Closer Look at the Top Foreign Sources of Fluid Power Products

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the top five foreign sources for fluid power products in 2022 were Mexico, Germany, Japan, China, and Canada (in that order). Take a closer look at the trends, products, regions, and balance of trade with NFPA’s foreign trade report.

All data in this article can be found in NFPA’s Foreign Trade for Fluid Power Products report with a member login.

The table below details the top five foreign sources of fluid power by dollar volume of fluid power products imported to the United States. Mexico remained the top foreign source in 2022 while Germany jumped Japan to become the second largest foreign source of fluid power products.

The graph below illustrates fluid power imports from the five countries in the table above over time. Germany was the leading foreign source of fluid power products through 2014. In 2015 Mexico became the leading source and has remained the leading source through 2022.

The table below details the ten most imported products from each of the top foreign sources of fluid power.

Hydraulic valves are the most imported product from the each of the top three (Mexico, Germany, Japan) foreign sources of fluid power while hydraulic actuators, linear are the most imported product from fourth (China) and fifth (Canada) largest sources of fluid power.
