Last semester, NFPA sponsored two unique types of events at Purdue University. The first was a two session dinner series designed for admitted Black students and their families to connect with current students, alumni, and faculty from Purdue Polytechnic Institute, and envision themselves as Polytechnic students. Purdue shared with the families the next steps to accept their admissions offer and opportunities for them as students at Purdue, while NFPA members HYDAC and Norgren talked about fluid power career paths and shared their own experiences.
The second was a recruitment event held in conjunction with the Maha Fluid Power Conference where a number of NFPA members met with mostly graduate students. The goal of the conference was to network, exchange ideas, and present the recent research trends in fluid power and related applications. The conference program included technical presentations, keynote lectures, and a half day hands-on workshop.
As NFPA continues to expand its Power Partner program with universities across the country, we are consistently looking for engaging ways to encourage and facilitate the connection between students and industry to introduce or enhance fluid power education and opportunities for recruitment.
Currently, Purdue faculty is inviting NFPA members to campus or to meet virtually this academic year on Tuesdays and Thursdays. HR and Engineering/Technical staff is welcome to:
Speak to students in fluid power classes about careers
Speak with Purdue’s Fluid Power Club
Meet Purdue faculty
Tour Purdue’s fluid power labs and facilities
