On a snowy day in January 2019 representatives from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) met in-person on the MSOE campus to discuss and outline a possible degree program in industrial distribution and/or technical sales. The NFPA members in attendance at that meeting stressed the unique importance of this skill set in the future success of their businesses, and helped lay out the courses and curriculum that would be most beneficial.
Now, MSOE has launched just such a degree program. Their Bachelor of Business Administration in Technical Sales is now accepting students, and the program is designed to appeal to individuals with an Associate degree in Applied Science who wish to move into a sales and/or distribution-based career in the fluid power and/or industrial sector. Students with an approved Associate degree from a technical college will enter MSOE as a junior and seamlessly transition to MSOE’s BBA program with a focus on technical sales. Students will learn key aspects of technical sales including networking, psychology of sales, prospecting, forecasting and key communication strategies.
The program is an optimal choice for those individuals at NFPA member companies who either wish to move in this direction, or whose companies wish to support their move.
