Manufacturing day is finally here! Every fall, manufacturers across the United States open their doors to show their communities what manufacturing really looks like. Again this year, because of its alignment with our workforce development objectives, NFPA will support events related to MFG Day through our own programs and encouraging member companies to take part in MFG Day activities. These events allow students, parents, and the general public to explore firsthand the world of manufacturing and its career options. While most of these events take place on the official MFG Day date, which this year is Friday, October 4, they can be scheduled throughout the year.
Traditionally, MFG Day celebrations have consisted of facility tours. However, there are other ways to engage students and introduce them to fluid power and manufacturing careers, including:
- Employee Q&A: Engineers explain to students what ‘a day in the life’ is like, how they got into the industry, etc.
- Team Project: Engineers work with students to help assemble a basic fluid power classroom kit.
- Create a video: Even though MFG Day is officially October 4, this option allows for continued and broader promotion by creating a shareable experience. Upload your video to YouTube and send a link using the MFG Day site’s Success Story form.
Are you hosting a MFG Day event this year? Share your story! We can help promote your event or get you connected with our education partners. Contact Stephanie at sscaccianoce@nfpa.com.
