NFPA’s Industry and Economic Outlook Conference is best known for its premier networking, enriching educational content and, of course, the NFPA Foundation Golf Fundraiser.

The mission of the NFPA Foundation is to increase the number of technical college and university students educated in fluid power and connect them to careers in the fluid power industry.

Thanks to the generosity and efforts of companies and individuals in the fluid power industry, the NFPA Foundation’s workforce development initiatives have impacted thousands of students at all grade levels across the country through education programs, scholarships and opportunities that support educators and schools.

For example, the NFPA Foundation awards grants to middle schools to facilitate their participation in the Action Challenge – either at one of the Challenge Champion events, or through the use of fluid power kits and curriculum in their classrooms. In total, 214 schools across the country have received these grants, and through this mechanism the program has been extended to an additional 13,000 students.

NFPA also offers multiple $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors, and students enrolled at community colleges, technical colleges, and universities. The Fluid Power Scholarship aims to help students pursue their interests in fluid power. There is also one merit-based scholarship, for up to $30,000 (up to $7,500 per year for four years), to a high school senior who participates as part of a FIRST® Robotics, National Robotics League, or VEX Robotics Competition Team and uses fluid power in their robot. The money awarded is used to study engineering at any accredited technical college or university in the United States.
