Advancing Equity in STEM

Byline: Mary Pluta

Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, NFPA partner organization WEPAN (Women in Engineering ProActive Network) is holding its annual Community Convening June 5-7, 2023, in Durham, North Carolina. Register here.

The 2023 ADVANCE Equity in STEM Community Convening will bring together individuals from higher education, professional societies, industry, government, and non-profits to collaborate, share new research, discuss effective programs, and learn about funding sources dedicated to creating equitable STEM workplaces.

This year’s Community Convening will prioritize four central themes:

  • Many Layers of Change – understanding and implementing change for STEM faculty at all levels, just like peeling back the layers of an onion
  • Sustainability and Institutionalization – sustaining systematic change efforts over time
  • Equitable Adaptation – building on work that has been done to focus on research and practice that has adapted to new contexts
  • COVID-19 and Faculty Equity Solutions – research, policy, and practice aimed at centering faculty equity
