The International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) recently announced the release of a new Fluid Power Reference Handbook, a resource for hydraulic, pneumatic and motion control professionals. This handbook not only helps current professionals but also future fluid power professionals. The resource will be provided to student teams that participate in the Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge next fall and will be hitting the desks of select tech school and universities that certify later this month.
Ernie Parker, CFPAI, serves as the Technical Liaison for the Vehicle Challenge and uses the Reference Handbook as a teaching resource for university students who are likely learning about fluid power for the first time. According to Ernie:
The new Fluid Power Reference Handbook is the best resource book I have seen for the fluid power industry. It contains all the formulas that you will use in our industry, including formulas needed for fluid power certification tests. It is much more than just a reference manual. The handbook explains many concepts, in reasonable detail, for an excellent overview of how various components work with both pneumatics and hydraulics.
The new book would also act as a resource for people becoming certified and re-certified through the IFPS. These certifications cover industrial hydraulics, mobile hydraulics, and pneumatics at the specialist, mechanic, and technician levels. They are objective, third-party assessment of industry skill levels and knowledge that have been since 1960, which has made them the industry standard for the fluid power and motion controls industry certifications. These certifications help individuals and companies alike increase their credibility within the industry.
