MSOE Fluid Power Club Students Connect with Industry

Programs like the Fluid Power Clubs are made possible in part by the generous support of industry volunteers as well as NFPA Education and Technology Foundation and Pascal Society donors.

The NFPA Technology and Education Foundation has launched a new program to support Fluid Power Clubs on university campuses. The goal of the clubs is to get younger students introduced to and interested in fluid power, support club activities, and connect students to industry professionals to learn about careers in fluid power.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has a newly formed NFPA-supported Fluid Power Club. In September 2019, MSOE’s Fluid Power Club collaborated with other student groups such as the Society of Hispanic Professionals and the National Society of Black Engineers to host a “Career Fair Pitch” event. The event attracted 25 students who met with industry representatives and received feedback on their resumes.

The industry representatives from Eaton and GE Healthcare also discussed “best practices” for crafting the perfect career fair pitch. The industry representatives shared background information about their positions and involvement within their industries, and then students and reps engaged in a Q&A-style panel where the following topics were covered:

  • What non-verbal communication is important when talking to recruiters?
  • How do you make yourself memorable to recruiters?
  • What if I don’t know what I want to do with my major? How do I pitch that?
  • A company catches my eye the day of, but I haven’t done my research. What should I say?
