In their 9th year supporting the Action Challenge, Wojanis hosted 40 students at Carlynton Junior High School in Pennsylvania. The NFPA Fluid Power Action Challenge is an educational program designed to get students hands-on exposure to scientific concepts in a competition format that makes learning and problem-solving both fun and engaging. Middle school students learn about the basics of fluid power, teamwork, coordination, and organization as they experiment and design their own unique machine.
A middle school teacher and long time participant in Wojanis’ Action Challenge brought two teams to the competition had this to say about the the event: “I think the competition is great as it forces the students to think on their own. Without teacher or parent influence, you get a real-world problem-solving application. I also like the use of a portfolio and the division of duties. This makes the students take ownership of their duty and contribute to the team effort.”
