Now Announcing: Houston Community College as a Fast Track Hub in Texas

NFPA’s Fast Track to Fluid Power is a workforce development pathway that partners local technical colleges with fluid power industry members and high school teachers. These networks create awareness and interest in fluid power and train students along a path that leads to careers in fluid power at NFPA member companies.

We are pleased to announce the addition of the fifth Fast Track to Fluid Power Hub, Houston Community College (HCC) in Houston, Texas. Alberto Urbina, Dean, Material Science and Smart Manufacturing, is leading the effort for HCC. The Texas Hub enables more NFPA members to help build a fluid power educated workforce and industry awareness through hands-on events and activities that benefit HCC students studying fluid power and the middle and high schools that feed the college.

Joining our existing Fast Track Hubs Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin, Houston Community College offers a strong Industrial Maintenance Technician program. HCC will enhance its fluid power curriculum offerings with input from local fluid power industry members so that graduating students will have strong, job-ready, skills in fluid power.

To get local NFPA members involved with our latest Fast Track Hub, we are launching a Workforce Engagement Group (WEG) to specifically serve members with recruiting needs in Texas. The Texas WEG is designed to bring industry members, HCC faculty, and NFPA’s Workforce Team together to identify and discuss opportunities that connect members with HCC students, and the middle and high schools the feed into the college.

Reach out to Haley Nemeth at hnemeth@nfpa.com to join the Texas WEG to be kept informed of developments with HCC as we work towards developing curriculum and relationships at its feeder schools and connect NFPA members with emerging talent.

NFPA will hold an inaugural Texas WEG at HCC for an official signing ceremony and campus tour to see their labs and meet HCC faculty and learn about their fluid power related courses on Tuesday, September 17th from 10A-12P CDT.
