Facility Tours Increase Company Visibility Among Students

Generating an educated fluid power workforce is a key pillar of our mission and a focus of the NFPA Education and Technology Foundation. One approach is to help connect educational institutions and their students with NFPA members through engaging facility tours.

In late October, Wisconsin member Galland, Henning Nopak, hosted a tour for Hamilton High School. The Human Resources/Office Manager, Becky Renz, collaborated with the school and connected students with the engineering, operations, and supply chain teams, who guided the tour through a variety of production cells.

Hamilton’s Applied Engineering Instructor, Kathy Rose, said “students were engaged and commented that the engineers use SolidWorks, just like they do in class. Students also stated, “it was a very interesting experience that actually showed us what a job in that environment looks like.” Tours can help students connect the classroom to the working world and potential career paths. NFPA supported the event by promoting the tour to Wisconsin educators and offering grants to help schools off-set bus transportation expenses.

We are actively seeking industry speakers to visit with the students at schools involved with our Fast Track and Power Partner University programs. Contact Stephanie at sscaccianoce@nfpa.com if your company would like to present to students or host a facility tour for a middle school, high school, technical school, or university in your area.
