WEPAN Hosts Virtual Program Day

NFPA partners with organizations to advance our strategic goal of developing the fluid power workforce. One of the organizations we work with is The Women in Engineering ProActive Network or WEPAN. WEPAN is a non-profit educational organization that leverages research and best practices to promote the inclusion of women in the field of engineering.  WEPAN advocates fully embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion to meet the demands of today’s innovation and performance-driven business culture.  WEPAN is hosting “The Women in Engineering Virtual Program Day” on Wednesday, October 19, from 11 am-6 pm. This is an excellent opportunity for NFPA members to network with women in the engineering field and learn about the issues that matter to them.

This conference pays homage to WEPAN’s origins as an organization founded by Women in Engineering Program practitioners. Their keynote speaker is Tiffany Smith, Ph.D., Cherokee and Muscogee Nations, Director of Research and Career Support, American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). Dr. Smith manages several grant-supported, research-related projects and conducts research focused on Indigenous students and professionals in STEM disciplines.

There are nine break-out sessions planned, including:

  • Weaving Women into Engineering vs. Weeding Them Out
  • What’s the Secret to Engagement and Retention: Findings from 4 Established WIE Programs,
  • From a WIE Director’s Perspective: Supporting Women Engineering Majors
  • A Framework and Funding Guide to Help Women in Academia Commercialize Research, Get Connected to Resources, and Find Funding that Fits
  • Sharing the Lives of Women Engineers Through Wikipedia Edit-a-Thons
  • Changing the Negative Discourse Regarding Women Belonging and Becoming Engineers
  • Advancing Inclusion for Women in STEM Graduate Programs

WEPAN is looking for session moderators. You don’t have to be a WEPAN member to be a moderator, and the registration fee is waived. Sign up by visiting: https://forms.gle/uH31y9rwMMrkHQgU9.
