Meet a Fluid Power Scholarship Winner – Hugo Garcia

Programs like the Fluid Power Scholarships are made possible in part by the generous support of industry volunteers as well as NFPA Education and Technology Foundation and Pascal Society donors. Support these efforts by making a donation.

The NFPA Education and Technology Foundation has awarded nineteen $2,000 scholarships to students pursuing fluid power technology fields of study.

Here’s one of the winners, Hugo Garcia. Hugo is attending Moraine Valley Community College. We asked Hugo about winning the scholarship…

What does winning a Fluid Power Scholarship mean to you?
Winning the NFPA fluid scholarship is a great honor and will help with my college expenses. The award also gives me more confidence with the upcoming more advanced college courses. I am now even more motivated in achieving a high GPA in college.

Why did you choose to learn about fluid power?
I chose to learn about fluid power to expand my knowledge in industrial machinery. Before attending Moraine Valley Community College, I worked on industrial engines that were in one form or another tied into a fluid power system. However, my knowledge was limited with some of the fluid power components. After completing this program, I will be knowledgeable and efficient in several sectors of fluid power.

What are your career aspirations? What type of fluid power job do you hope to get after you graduate?
My career aspirations are to begin a career in the fluid power industry and incorporate my past work experience with my current education. After receiving my degree, I plan on working in the industrial construction or mining industry. The fluid power industry is versatile and is incorporated into many industrial and commercial settings. I am confident I will have a rewarding and long lasing career after graduation.

The Foundation’s goal is to help individuals enrolled in technical colleges and universities pursue their interests in fluid power. The Fluid Power Scholarship application is available from January 2023 until early April 2023. Please share this opportunity within your network. Additionally, if you would like to serve on the application review committee, please contact Eric Pannell at epannell@nfpa.com.
