U.S. Standards Technical Advisory Group on Connectors Convenes in Indy

Standards development committee members from NFPA, ARPM, and SAE came together recently in downtown Indianapolis to discuss all things connectors – port and fitting ends, flange port connectors, hydraulic and pneumatic quick-action couplings, test methods for fluid power hose assemblies, and other connector-related products and components. Twenty-one committee members (both NFPA and non-NFPA members) represented the connector industry, including Caterpillar, Eaton, Gates Corporation, Main Manufacturing, Curtis Products, John Deere, Parker Hannifin, and Tru-Line Manufacturing.

NFPA is the secretariat to both the ISO subcommittee and the ANSI Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on connectors. Led by TAG chairman Lou Moreiras from Parker Hannifin, the U.S. TAG to TC 131/SC 4 received updates and discussed 28 projects (in various developmental stages) related to connectors.

First up on the agenda was the nomination of experts to attend the ISO fluid power subcommittee and working group meetings to be held November 7 – 9, 2016 in Milan, Italy. The group also came to agreement on the results for a number of systematic reviews and other projects that will be presented in Milan. All standards are reviewed every five years and revised by the experts to ensure that each standard contains the most current data, graphs, products materials, etc. available.

The next connectors TAG meeting will be held, in conjunction with IFPE 2017, from noon until 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV.  Members interested in participating on the connectors standards development committee should contact Denise Rockhill in the NFPA office at drockhill@nfpa.com.
