Poclain Hydraulics Sponsors South Milwaukee High School Fluid Power Action Challenge

Poclain Hydraulics kicked off this year’s Fluid Power Action Challenge at its Sturtevant facility earlier this month. Students and staff from South Milwaukee High School were in attendance, as were Arlen Garcia of the NFPA and Tom Wanke of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). Wanke served as the head judge for the competition.

Poclain added a mentoring program to the event to provide more interaction with students and a fuller introduction to fluid power. The program included fluid power-related presentations by experts from Poclain, a plant tour, presentation of building projects coordinated by Poclain teams, and a career discussion.

Poclain has been a Fluid Power Action Challenge sponsor in partnership with MSOE for over five years, and the experiences have been rewarding for students and teachers.

“The feedback from teachers and students was extremely positive, with one student stating that this event helped him understand that engineering is much more than sitting at a desk,” said Katie Pullen, Product Marketing Manager at Poclain Hydraulics. “He even said that he changed his mind on his future path. This event helps to break down a lot of barriers and open students’ eyes to the variety of careers available.”
