Students Learn About Fluid Power Careers on MFG Day

Programs like the Fast Track to Fluid Power/FAMTEN and Student Career Connections are made possible in part by the generous support of industry volunteers as well as NFPA Education and Technology Foundation and Pascal Society donors.

manufacturing day 2019On October 11, 2019, NFPA joined about 45 local high school students, including those from participating FAMTEN/Fast Track Leyden high schools, for Manufacturing Day at Triton College. The students toured either Trelleborg’s or Walco Tool’s manufacturing facilities and heard directly from employees and leaders about education requirements, job opportunities, innovations in their industries and more.

They also participated in a fluid power build project at Triton College and heard from speakers representing the National Fluid Power Association workforce development team, Ferrara Candy Company, Sonoco, Illinois Manufacturing Association, GCamp, Zengers and FPE Automation. Speakers shared their educational and professional backgrounds, opportunities in their industries and information about scholarship programs.

Manufacturing Day is officially the first Friday of October, but many companies celebrate all month long. Manufacturing Day was started to address common misconceptions about working in manufacturing by creating a collective movement that connects manufacturers with the future workforce, educators, parents and community leaders to showcase opportunities at their company.

NFPA encourages companies and educators to embrace the spirit of Manufacturing Day all year long by opening your doors to students and creating a Career Connections Day of your own.

Thank you to Triton College for hosting, the teachers and students at Leyden High Schools and J. Sterling Morton High School for attending and all of the companies that provided tours and speakers to make this day a success!
