The U. S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/TC 131- fluid power systems has been working on a number of new projects that will eventually become published ISO Standards. Following is a sampling of current projects underway in the committees:
Committee Draft of ISO 3968 – Hydraulic fluid power — Filters — Evaluation of differential pressure versus flow characteristics. This International Standard specifies a procedure for evaluating differential pressure versus flow characteristics of hydraulic filters and constitutes a basis for agreement between the filter manufacturer and user.
Final Draft of ISO 3723 – Hydraulic fluid power — Filter elements — Method for end load test. This International Standard specifies a method for verifying the end load rating of a hydraulic fluid power filter element. It also verifies the ability of a hydraulic fluid power filter element to withstand the designated axial loading imposed by installation and use.
New Work Item Proposal to Update ISO 5598 – Fluid power systems and components — Vocabulary. This International Standard establishes the vocabulary, in English, French and German, for all fluid power systems and components, excluding aerospace applications and compressed air supply installations.
It is important for the fluid power industry to provide end users with a set of requirements, specifications and guidelines that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are being used for the purpose they were made. Projects like those listed above are good examples of the work being done by the fluid power technical experts.
