This spring, the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) received a teaching grant from the NFPA Education and Technology Foundation. The purpose of the grant was to help the Rearin’ Raiders team improve the design and functionality of the 2011 model of their Electrohydraulic Performance Puller (EHPP), and then bring the tractor to the ASABE International ¼ Scale Tractor Student Design Competition.
Participating in the student competition allowed the students to gain realistic, real-world experience of designing a ¼ scale pulling tractor with the consumer in mind. The goal of the project was to demonstrate the performance advantages of an electromechanically controlled fluid power drive system and spark interest in future fluid power design projects at MSOE.
