As of December 31, 2015, John Berninger, Parker Hannifin retiree and consultant, has stepped down in his role as chairman of ISO/TC 131, Fluid Power Systems. Berninger had chaired the TC 131 development of ISO Standards for the past 12 years. The NFPA Board of Directors will thank Berninger for his dedication to the fluid power industry and development of standards during the general session on Thursday, March 10, at the 2016 NFPA Annual Conference in San Antonio. One of his most recent contributions has been in spearheading the development and revision of a number of standards to include energy efficiency and power loss. Berninger plans to stay involved with standards development both nationally and internationally.
Gary Baumgardner, chief engineer in the Controls Business Unit of Parker Hannifin in the U. S., has been approved by the ISO TC 131 participating members to serve a three-year term as chairman of ISO/TC 131, Fluid Power Systems. He has assumed the role and will continue the work through December 31, 2018. Baumgardner has worked on most (if not all) of the pneumatic standards developed or reviewed in the last 20 years. He has also worked on the hydraulic and pneumatic safety standards, graphic standards and ISO port standards during his tenure. Baumgardner will be on hand in San Antonio for the special presentation to Berninger.
