Fluid Power Lab Grants Make an Impact—Student Testimonials

Students benefiting from Fluid Power Lab Grants in Texas

In 2014, Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas received a $25,000 Fluid Power Lab Grant from the NFPA Education and Technology Foundation. The school used the funds to purchase learning systems with learning activity packets that include objectives, activities, skills, and reviews designed to help students understand and demonstrate different aspects of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The new equipment was used during the recent fall semester by 56 students in four fluid power courses. Here’s what two of the students have to say . . .

Keaton Whitworth (pictured above on left):
Why did you choose to learn about fluid power?
“I enjoy learning about fluid power and I wanted to further my knowledge in fluid power.”

What did you like about working in the fluid power lab at Angelina College?
“I like the fact that whatever I need is right there in the lab to work with.”

What are your career aspirations? What type of fluid power job do you hope to get after you graduate?
“I would like to acquire a job as a fluid power maintenance tech and eventually work my way up to owning my own business.”

Why did you choose to learn about fluid power?
“When I worked in industry I was always surrounded by hydraulics.”

What did you like about working in the fluid power lab at Angelina College?
“The instructor is very knowledgeable and the equipment is up to date, so I should be able to go into the field and be current on equipment.”

What are your career aspirations? What type of fluid power job do you hope to get after you graduate?
“After I graduate I would like to design and repair hydraulic equipment and eventually own a business dealing in hydraulic sales and repair.”
