NFPA road trips are a great educational opportunity for so many reasons. We learn about our member companies, we learn a lot about our co-worker’s taste in music and we always see something entertaining along the way. For example, we passed the Oscar Mayer Wiener Mobile on a recent trip. You don’t get to see something like that sitting in the office.
Last week Pete Alles highlighted two of the three companies he, Eric Lanke and I recently visited, Clippard Instruments Laboratory, and Sheffer Corporation. However, on the way to Cincinnati to visit those two NFPA members, we made another stop in Muncie, Indiana, to visit Muncie Power Products. Ray Chambers, President and CEO, rolled out the red carpet for us as we met key staff members and toured the company headquarters in historic downtown Muncie.
A consistent theme throughout the company is attention to detail and striving for excellence. They have invested heavily in IT systems that allow them to monitor all of their facilities from their Muncie headquarters with instant notifications of slow-downs or challenges. Customer Service is also based in Muncie and this tenured group is armed with the latest technology including a large monitor that displays current call volume and wait times. Their building also features state-of-the-art, flexible classroom space which is used for training programs tailored to customers, suppliers, distributors plus staff education.
