New EEOC Pregnancy Guidance Requires Employers to Provide Light Duty and Accommodations
The EEOC’s guidance notes that some pregnant workers could qualify as having a disability as defined by the ADA, making them eligible for reasonable accommodations, including light-duty assignments. The timing of the guidance’s issuance is controversial, however.
Some Sunlight for the U.S. Labor Market
Nothing like starting off the fall season with a bit of confusion. Wall Street analysts, in their tendency to over-interpret monthly data, expressed disappointment with net growth in total U.S. payroll jobs of only 142,000 during the month of August. After a string of six months where employment gains were persistently above the 200,000 mark, they expected something much stronger.
