Data on the Global Fluid Power Industry Presented at the 2014 International Fluid Power Summit

NFPA members have come to rely on NFPA for data and information on the health and growth of the U.S. fluid power industry—but one area that we receive increasing requests for is information on what’s going on in other fluid power markets around the globe. Our Global Market Reports and Forecasts are a great resource for satisfying those requests, but once a year there is an event that can provide some additional perspective on the global fluid power industry. I’m referring to the International Fluid Power Summit, where fluid power associations from around the world come together to share information and discuss ways to strengthen our global industry.

NFPA, in fact, hosted the last such gathering at IFPE in March 2014. Twelve countries were represented—Australia, Britain, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, Turkey and the United States. Each presented information on the economy and fluid power market trends in their home regions. For those who are interested, those presentations can be accessed here.

One presentation you’ll find there is from the International Fluid Power Statistics Committee—an international body that NFPA and 20 other fluid power associations belong to, which collects data from all of its participating members and produces reports on the size and trends in the global fluid power industry. A few highlights from their presentation include:

  • Global sales of fluid power components are forecasted to top 37 billion Euros in 2014.
  • The three biggest markets for fluid power components are the United States, Europe and China, each with about 29% of the global market share.
  • That has changed dramatically since 2000, when the United States had 38%, Europe had 34%, and China had 2%.
  • The countries with the largest forecasted growth in hydraulic component sales are Russia (25%), Turkey (15%) and China (10%).
  • The same countries also have the largest forecasted growth in pneumatic component sales, but in different percentages: Turkey (15%), China (12%) and Russia (12%).

The next International Fluid Power Summit will be hosted by VDMA and held at the Hannover Faire in April 2015. I will be attending, and the sessions are generally open to members of the fluid power industry. Contact me if you’d like more details: Eric Lanke or  (414) 778-3351.
