In 2002, NFPA looked to design and build a tool that would enable members to make more extensive and efficient use of NFPA market information resources. That idea led to NFPA’s Stats Toolkit Excel. Now, after fourteen years and many different versions of the Toolkit Excel, we near the release of NFPA’s Stats Toolkit Pro. NFPA’s next generation of statistical tools, this cloud-based statistical toolkit will retain almost all of the core functionality that made the original Toolkit Excel such a popular member benefit, but launches from a new platform and introduces users to a new interface that increases data applications and improves user experience.
A group of NFPA members volunteered to evaluate NFPA’s Stats Toolkit Pro and have just completed beta testing. These individuals, some currently users of the Stats Toolkit Excel and some completely new to the Toolkit experience, were asked to completely examine every feature possible of the Toolkit Pro. This included:
- Testing the registration and login system as we move from a company logins to individual logins.
- Proofing supporting toolkit webpages to confirm whether these webpages play a supporting role in improving the individual’s ability to use and understand the Toolkit Pro.
- Uploading company data to assess the ease in adding company and custom data sources for expanded analysis features.
- Building reports using the various tools and applications in the Toolkit Pro while supplying feedback on the ease of use and functionality satisfaction.
- Assessing results to grade the usability, accuracy, and appearance of the information included.
With the assistance of Northwoods Software, the NFPA will evaluate and prioritize the feedback the Toolkit Pro beta-testers provided. Any edits and changes that are necessary to produce the best tool possible will be made before the release of the Stats Toolkit Pro.
