Improving Energy Efficiency in Compressed Air Systems

Fluid Power Design Blog

As NFPA Industry Marketing Manager, I often search out blog posts and articles relating to hydraulics and pneumatics.  I recently discovered an article posted on the Parker Hannifin blog that pertains to the type of content typically published on our Fluid Power Design Tech Blog.

In his article entitled, “How Manufacturers Find Savings in Compressed Air”, Parker Hannifin’s Market Development Manager Rich McDonnel writes on how manufacturing plants can cut costs by improving their compressed air systems. Mr. McDonnel’s article details a number of strategies that can be employed to improve compressed air energy savings. Some of the strategies written about include:

  • Right-sized compressors and components
  • Select serviceable actuators
  • Use air preparation systems
  • Select the right pressure
  • Vacuum less
  • Look for leaks
  • Reevaluate your compressor

For details on each energy saving strategy check out the full blog post.
