Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge Hydraulics… meet the bicycle. The NFPA Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge is based on an initiative pioneered by Parker Hannifin Corporation. This STEM competition challenges college engineering students to redesign a traditional bicycle using hydraulics as the mode of power transmission. By combining this unlikely pair, the Vehicle Challenge hopes to create an environment that results in uncommon connections and breakthroughs, while supporting learning and the growth of fluid power industry knowledge. Teams are typically required to include: An accumulator for storing energy Some form of an electronic control system for the vehicle Regeneration technology Make it your capstone! The Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge easily embeds into the capstone design course most mechanical engineering students take in their senior year, and includes exclusive opportunities to connect with fluid power industry professionals through the design and competition process. Universities are encouraged to participate in the context of their senior capstone design courses, but student teams in other configurations are welcome.
